Alphonse Mucha - Topaz, artist mirror
A beautiful Alphonse Mucha mirror featuring vibrant, elegant lady with lovely jewel detail. The subject of this piece is wearing an elegant dress and is set against an intricate background finish - this is a truly exceptional piece.
The artwork featured on this mirror is The Precious Stones: Topaz (1900)
The dreamlike expression of Topaz is typical of Mucha's poster for his solo exhibition at the Salon des Cent. Mucha's use of flat colour and bold outlines, as seen in the plant in the lower half of the composition, reveals his passion for Japanese prints.
Topaz is entirely representative of Mucha's illustrative style, disclosing the combination of touches of nature, a young lady’s figure and also the in-depth decorative patterned backgrounds. She looks directly at us, with a relaxed, elegant look. Her hair is neatly tied up, and she has sports only light touches of makeup which ensure her natural beauty is not lost. Her dress has carefully crafted, one of which the straps slips below her shoulder, whilst the lower half is in a light white, the dress stretches well beyond her toes.
Mucha would often broaden dresses in order to accentuate a lady’s femininity and also to allow other parts of the design to merge over the top. In this example, there are elements of flower buds which come up over the top. it features fairly earthly tones of turquoise and browns which dominate the majority of Topaz, making it more subtle than some of his other, brighter pieces.
A New Home In Vienna
In the heart of Vienna, where the scent of pastries mingle with the crisp autumn air, stands a grand house. Its opulence renowned, filled with art and history, but one treasure remained elusive, whispered among the circles of connoisseurs: the Topaz Mirror, a masterpiece created by the illustrious Alphonse Mucha. The mirror, with its beautiful wooden frame and shimmering surface, was said to hold not only beauty but also the echoes of time.
One autumn afternoon, as the golden leaves danced outside, Mag. Grete, the devoted curator of the grand house, received word that the mirror had finally arrived. The anticipation that had built over the years culminated in a flurry of excitement. As the delivery men carefully brought the mirror into the grand hall, Grete’s heart raced with the knowledge that she was about to witness history.
