Mirrors Of The Month - February 2024

The Fold Antiques is thrilled to present the first in a new monthly series, introducing you to our favourite vintage mirrors, each one unique and intricate in design.

Our selection offers a perfect way to add a touch of magic to your interior. In this series of articles, we'll share a selection of our favourite advertising mirrors that we believe will inspire you with their charm, glamour, and nostalgia.

Van Houten - "Chocolat - 1906"

Designed in the Art Deco style, this mirror is based on the 1906 Van Houten Chocolate advertising piece and displays a vibrant combination of turquoise and burnt orange.

This piece places particular emphasis on art deco forms and geometric shapes. The main focus of the mirror is a beautiful lady, which is designed to make an impression on your décor.

Van Houten has an impressive history that spans over 180 years, and this mirror is a fantastic representation of their majestic advertising designs.

Dewars Scotch Whisky Pub Mirror

Dewars Scotch Whisky Advertising Mirror

We're always on the look out for pub mirrors, so we were delighted when we came across this incredible Dewars Scotch Whisky Mirror.

This iconic design makes great use of bold fonts and harmonious colours to make the piece stand out, featuring a Scottish Highlander in traditional dress to draw out the historical connection between whisky and Scottish culture. This advertising mirror is perfect for whisky collectors, as well as for those looking to add an exciting piece to their collection, man cave or she-shed.

Did you know that Dewars created the first motion picture advertisement, "It's Scotch!" in 1898?

Rolls Royce Silver Ghost 1911 Advertising Mirror

We offer a wide range of automobile mirrors and one of our favourites is the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost 1911 advertising mirror. With a sleek and elegant design, this piece is understated, yet impactful.

As a luxury car company, Rolls Royce's mirror design echoes their prestigious look whilst emanating the art deco feel that was so popular at the time. This makes the mirror suitable for a wide range of enthusiasts. With Rolls Royce being a deluxe British brand known for their quality craftsmanship, we believe that this mirror can create the same impact on your interior design.

Henri de Toulouse Lautrec - Divan Japonais

The final piece in this collection is an Art Nouveau mirror based on a lithograph poster from 1893 that advertised Café Chantant, a type of musical establishment associated with the Belle Epoque in France.

The mirror features the famous dancer Jane Avril and the writer Édouard Dujardin watching a performance by Yvette Guilbert. The classy matt graphic draws you in and adds a subtle touch of design to your wall. The fonts are in an eye-catching naïve style that enhances the piece, and the patina adds to its charm.
