Authentic rustic untouched 18th-century English oak Coffer. C 1780-1800. Beautiful, historically aged patina with work craftsmanship marks. It has been lined with newspaper articles from 1854, which were used to keep the interior dry. However, the coffer predates this by a considerable amount.
The antique oak coffer is of simple, plain form and has a hinged lid that opens to reveal a spacious interior. The coffer has a three-panel front and is raised on block feet. One of my favourite parts is the back panel that has been crudely chiselled from one section of oak, with an excellent, authentic craftsmanship finish.
The plain, natural design and the marks of use from over the last 240 years create a beautiful sense of history.
Antique condition, with a strong and sturdy structure, featuring authentic marks and patina.
