This beautiful piece is an antique dome-top (or barrel-top) steamer trunk, commonly manufactured during the late 19th century (circa 1870–1900).
The distinctive curved lid was designed for long-distance travel on steamships and trains. This shape was highly practical because it prevented baggage handlers from stacking other heavy luggage on top, keeping the curved lid safe from crushing.
It features a robust wooden core reinforced with horizontal slats of wood, black metal banding, secure side latches, and a central brass or iron locking mechanism.
Today, these chests are highly collectible and frequently repurposed into rustic coffee tables, decorative statement pieces, or blanket storage boxes.
Authentic antique condition with original aged patina, lock for decoration not working.
