Add a touch of timeless Victorian elegance to your vanity or dresser with this beautiful antique wooden glove box, dating back to the late 19th century (circa 1880).
Crafted from stunning, warmly toned figured walnut, this rectangular casket features striking Tunbridge Ware-style geometric mosaic bands inlaid vertically across the domed lid and down the front. The rich, authentic grain contrasts beautifully with the dark, intricate parquetry borders, highlighting the era's skilled handcraftsmanship.
Originally intended to preserve a lady's or gentleman's fine evening gloves, its elongated shape makes it an incredibly versatile statement piece today. Use it as a striking jewellery case, a desk organiser for fine stationery, or a handsome keepsake box to hold your most treasured personal items.
The box's internal lining is lovely. It consists of a purple fabric with a woven pattern, possibly silk, which lines the inner perimeter of both the lid and the base.
The base and the lid's interior panels are covered with a thick black fabric, which appears to be a replacement for the original lining.
The purple fabric is vibrant and shows authentic patina. The hinges are small brass plates secured with screws.
The light-coloured wood veneer shows a warm golden patina, with scattered faint surface scratches, shallow scuffs, and minor edge wear.
