Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898) was a notable English author and illustrator. He drew with black ink, taking inspiration from Japanese woodcuts, and produced artwork featuring the grotesque, decadent, and erotic. He was a prominent member of the aesthetic movement, including Oscar Wilde and James McNeill Whistler. Despite his untimely death from tuberculosis, Beardsley contributed significantly to developing Art Nouveau and poster styles. He remains an essential figure of the Modern Style movement.
