Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (August 21, 1872 – March 16, 1898) was an English illustrator and author. Japanese woodcuts influenced his black ink drawings and depicted the grotesque, decadent, and erotic. He was a leading figure in the aesthetic movement, including Oscar Wilde and James McNeill Whistler. Beardsley's contribution to developing the Art Nouveau and poster styles was significant despite his early death from tuberculosis. He is one of the critical Modern Style figures.
