Stunning vibrant Jazz Serenade by Anthony Crickmay's vintage mirror was one of several atmospheric black and white posters published by the commercial company Athena. Athena was a highly successful British art retailer, established in 1964, which became the largest company of its kind selling atmospheric posters to decorate homes and students' bedrooms. It went into administration in 1995. Anthony Crickmay created many photographic images for Athena, styling Sue Odell's clothes from Siren Camden.
Anthony Crickmay was a leading photographer of dancers. His first photographic job was as assistant to the studio photographer Lotte Meitner-Graf, and in 1958, he set up his studio concentrating on theatre, opera and especially dance. Crickmay worked for all the major newspaper chains and magazine groups and exhibited work at the Theatre Museum. He also published several books. He also photographed stars of the theatre, opera, and dance worldwide, as well as many members of the British royal family.
